Google AdWords launched about 18 years ago and its number one goal was (and still is) to make things easy for people to connect with businesses online. For instance, it’s a Friday evening, you’re home from a long day, and now you’re thinking, “Alright, what’s the plan for tonight? Where should I go eat?” Naturally, a person might use his or her mobile, open a Google search or ask Siri, “Best restaurants near me,” or if in the mood for something specific, “Thai restaurants near me.” Google’s main goal is to serve the most relevant and valuable answer to a person making an online search.
So why the change?
In a nutshell, to make things easier. And so, Google is rebranding some of its products – say goodbye to Google AdWords and hello to Google Ads! In addition, a lot has changed in 18 years. Mobile usage has increased tremendously and it’s now a huge part of our day. It’s been said that on average, a person views his or her phone 2,600 times a day! A person also gets distracted every 8 seconds by his or her phone, and it takes about 23 minutes to get back on task. Talk about MOBILE domination! But hey, it’s not a bad thing. Smartphones such as the iPhone, Galaxy, Pixel, Huawei, and more have forever changed digital marketing strategies and it’s important to adapt to new technology.
Other Changes from Google
Google is also rebranding some other brands and solutions for its advertising products:
- Google Marketing Platform (DoubleClick + Google Analytics 360 Suite)
- Google Ad Manager (DoubleClick for Publishers + DoubleClick Ad Exchange)
- New Ad Settings
