Hey there and welcome back – Ryan Kelly, your host of SEO on the Go. Today, I’m going to be answering the question that I get asked basically everyday which is, “How long does search engine optimization take to work?” Well, it’s kind of a loaded question. Think about it like this – if you’re going after a really niche key phrase, a very low competitive key phrase in a small city or a small town, it might take two to five months to work until you see some good results and see the rankings moving. If you’re going after really broad phrases in a big geography like a big county, maybe a state, it could take six to twelve months. And if you’re going after a national campaign, there’s a very good chance it could take 12 to 18 months to see good results.
But the beauty of search engine optimization is that you’re investing in a long-term strategy. So, I always tell people you want to have a diverse, kind of scientifically put together key phrase list that you’re targeting. So you should be targeting non-competitive phrases where you can come up fast; you should be targeting competitive phrases where you’ll take some time; and maybe you want to target some of those big phrases where it’s going to take a while to get to, but once you get there, that’s the big money!
